Hail to the King Pada tanggal 11 April 2012, Avenged Sevenfold memenangkan penghargaan untuk "Best Live Band" dan "Most Dedicated Fans" di Revolver Golden Gods Awards. Band ini melakukan tur di Asia ke April dan awal Mei, pada tanggal 23 dan 24 di Atlantic City, New Jersey bersama Metallica dan lainnya. Pada tanggal 24 September 2012, Avenged Sevenfold merilis sebuah lagu baru, berjudul "Carry On", lagu cover video game Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Pada tanggal 15 November 2012, vokalis M. Shadows mengatakan bahwa band ini telah membuat album baru sejak rekaman "Carry On" pada bulan Agustus 2012. Pada saat itu juga, Arin Ilejay telah menjadi anggota band dan pengganti The Rev. M. Shadows mengatakan bahwa album ini akan terdengar seperti rock blues dan dipengaruhi seperti rock klasik / metal seperti Black Sabbath dan Led Zeppelin. Hail to the King, album Avenged Sevenfold dirilis tanggal 27 Agustus 2013. Album ini dibuat tanpa kontribusi dari The Rev. Didalam album ini, lagu Avenged Sevenfold terinspirasi dari band-band lawas seperti Metallica dan Guns N' Roses. Album ini sangat populer di seluruh dunia. Album ini pernah memuncaki Billboard 200 dan memuncaki tangga album nomor 1 di Inggris, Brazil, Kanada, Finlandia, dan Irlandia. Album ini terjual sebanyak 159,000 kopi di Amerika Serikat setelah dirilis satu minggu sebelumnya.
